Georgia Theme Park Nicknamed “Six Flags Under Water” After Deadly Floods

Six Flags

Roller coasters and ferris wheels sticking out of muddy flood waters - the images from Six Flags Over Georgia seem like they belong in a disaster movie, but the scene is very real for the people of the Southeast. According to Good Morning America, the area received 21 inches of rain over the past week, causing intense floods that have killed at least six people, torn apart homes and made roads completely impassable. “This is absolutely ridiculous,” one Georgia woman exclaimed as she tried to maneuver her car through the water. “I have never seen anything like this in Atlanta before.”

Even worse, the flood water is surprisingly cold, causing many people to suffer from hypothermia. Although Georgia has been the hardest hit, the disastrous conditions stretch as far as Tennessee and North Carolina.

The storms have set records, just months after the region was in a severe, two-year drought that left lakes and rivers more than a dozen feet below average. More than 130 roads have been closed, and residents and schoolchildren have been forced to evacuate. The good news is that the rain is expected to let up, but there are still many flood watches and warnings in effects for seven Southeastern states. In many places, the water level will remain high until the end of the week.
