Who is Taylor Schilling? The world is about to find out, since her new show Mercy premieres tonight at @ 8 pm on NBC. Although I don’t really think we need another medical show, I have a feeling the writing will be good since it was created by Liz Heldens, who also wrote for Friday Night Lights (the most underrated drama on TV, in my opinion).
According to the show website, Taylor plays Veronica Callahan, a nurse who has just returned from Iraq. Michelle Trachtenberg plays another nurse, Chloe (does this mean she can leave Gossip Girl? please?), along with Jamie Lee Kirchner, who plays Sonia. And it wouldn’t be a medical show without some relationship drama, so dreamy James Tupper plays the dude she had some history with in Iraq. Problem is, her estranged husband (Diego Klattenhoff) wants to get back together. Yowza! All this, and she’s supposed to be saving lives, too!
If Mercy does well it will be a breakout role for Taylor, who is relatively unknown. She made her debut in the indie film Dark Matter alongside Meryl Streep, but that’s pretty much it. Originally from Boston, Taylor got a BA in acting from Fordham University Lincoln Center. She has appeared in various plays at Bard College, NYU, and Fordham, and currently lives in New York.
