This story is just weird. CBS News reports that 58 year-old actor Randy Quaid and his wife Eva were taken into police custody yesterday after a warrant was issued for their arrest. The crime: leaving a California hotel without paying a $10,000 bill. The felony warrant from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is for burglary, defrauding an innkeeper and conspiracy.
Their mug shots have been released by the Presidio County Sheriff’s Department in Texas, and Randy seems to have enjoyed the adventure. Check out that smile! What, you can’t see it because of that scraggly Santa Claus beard? I guess he must have forgotten his razor at the hotel.
Here’s my favorite part of the tale: Randy and Evan were able to pay their combined bail of $40,000 after a sheriff’s deputy drove them to an ATM. Can you seriously take out $40,000 from an ATM? Isn’t there a daily limit or something? And obviously – why didn’t the couple just pay their hotel bill? It would have saved them thirty grand, no?
According to IMDB, Randy was last seen playing the title role of the straight-to-DVD masterpiece Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach. I guess ”balls out” must be his new motto for life.
