Rapper Shyne Released From Prison Today
The hip hop world is abuzz (and atwitter) with the news that New York rapper Shyne will be released from prison today after serving a 10-year sentence for a 1999 shooting. According to Hip Hop Wired, several members of the hip hop community have made their feelings known on Twitter:
Fabolous wrote: “Somebody gettin outta jail is like a Hood Holiday…Welcome Home Shyne Po… Brooklyn Love.”
Red Cafe wrote: “welcome home to my flatbush comrad shyne po!!!”
And outside of New York, Wale wrote: “shyne got out today…its gonna be a wonderful day.”
Despite the tension between them in the past, even record label mogul P. Diddy expressed good wishes about Shyne’s release from jail. He says the two have spoken and although a potential re-signing has not yet been discussed, he’s sure that Shyne has some heat.
Shyne will have to undergo two and a half years of post-release supervision/parole. However, it looks like he’s found…well, not Jesus, but God. While in prison, Shyne converted to Judaism and is now known as Moses Levi. Certainly a unique rapper name.
30-year-old Shyne is the son of Dean Barrow, the current Prime Minister of Belize. He has released two albums: Shyne (2000) and Godfather Buried Alive (2004). A third album entitled Godfather Exhumed is in the works.
