Renee Zellweger has signed on for the 3rd installment of Bridget Jones, but instead of packing on the pounds like she famously did for the earlier movies in 2001 and 2004, this time around she is going to wear a fat suit.
Zellweger had trouble dropping the pounds after the second Bridget Jones film, and is reportedly worried about the adverse effects the rapid gain and loss will have on her body (and rightly so). Thus, she will wear a fat suit to portray the delightfully curvy diary writer.
I don’t know how well they are going to be able to pull this off. Zelwegger is a waif, and a fat suit ain’t gonna cut it. You can add a little bit of boobies and a baby bump, but that face and those arms are going to be hard to believably hide. Adding enough weight to make her look like Bridget Jones again is going to be a makeup job comparable to Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor.
Gaining and losing weight so quickly is a horrible stress on the body, so her concerns are definitely valid. Yo-yo dieting can negatively impact the immune system and metabolism even when it is your job. It’s just a fact that your metabolism slows with age, so dropping the weight would undoubtedly be harder this time around. Its definitely a safer (and easier) choice to wear the suit, however I’m pretty sure its going to be obvious and distracting.
But if I have Colin Firth to look at in the meantime, I think I’ll be OK.
The film, which is said to start production in 2010, will focus on Bridget trying to have a baby in her 40s.

i have to imagine Hollywood knows how to deal with fat-suits at this point, Renee isn't the first skinny-girl in need of a fat-suit. i mean, hopefully it won't have to be CGI or anything (lol), but i'm sure there are tricks to the trade.
