As the weather gets cooler, into the closet go the sandals and out of the closet come the boots! Not that it always has to work like this (sandals are pretty much year-round footwear in L.A.), but it’s a general rule. So, if you don’t have boots, slip your sandals back on and go out and get some. Here are some options to help you pick a great pair!
You can’t go wrong with a pair of flat-soled black or brown leather riding boots. It’s a style of boot that is always wearable and will never go out of fashion. J.Crew has one of the best selections of classic riding-style boots. They may be on the pricier side (around $200 a pair), but nice leather boots are a wardrobe investment, so you want to spend a little extra cash to get a quality pair. J.Crew also sells boots with a wider-calf. Because that is always a concern with tall boots, it’s nice to have that option.
If you’re a little edgier or want a boot with a bit of a heel, you can’t go wrong with Frye. These are some of the most durable and fashionable boots out there and they come in just about every style there is. A cool choice would be one of Frye’s motorcycle boots in black leather with silver studs.
If you are on a tight budget, like most of us are these days, Payless might be a good place to do a little boot shopping. The thrifty retail chain has really revamped itself, selling more desirable products and collaborating with hip designers like Alice + Olivia. This would be a good place to scoop up a pair of going-out ankle booties, like a pair that comes in purple suede with a flirty ruffle. Most of the boots at the discount chain cost around $35. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Go get your boots on and start walking!

Yes! Boots! One of my favorite parts of cold weather. Although, I'm not much of a riding boots kind of girl -- more a cowboy, err, cowgirl boots kind of girl!

I have boots similar to these but they're more "western" than riding boots. Here's a pic. This pic doesn't do them justice because they're really a rich cognac color, but I love these! Got them for $16.99 at ROSS. SCORE! :D
