Who is Natasha Lyonne? She’s an actress. Once lauded as an indie darling for her roles in movies like Slums of Beverly Hills and But I’m a Cheerleader and widely known as a cynical teenager in the raunchy American Pie movies. She was also a drug addict who almost died in 2005, spending months in a New York hospital suffering from several drug-related illnesses. Now, she’s reemerged and has a little frank talk about fashion and life to share with us all.
I totally enjoyed reading the little bits of wisdom she shared recently when she was interviewed on the red carpet at the opening night of Love, Loss and What I Wore. Call her what you will, a has-been, washed-up, a drug addict, but I appreciate what she’s bringing to the table. She calls fashion out for being all about skinny girls, but doesn’t stress about getting back to her former weight in order to fit in.
It’s almost as if she’s reading my mind. And, I think it’s safe to assume, the minds of a lot of women out there who are dealing with aging and weight and self-acceptance. At 26, I’m relatively young by most standards, but I can’t help but yearn for the days when I was 21. Maybe it sounds ridiculous, but when Natasha revealed that she wakes up expecting to see a 19-year-old in the mirror, I could totally identify.
It’s nice to know someone is dealing with the same crap you are on a daily basis. Yet, she still seems very comfortable in her 30-year-old skin, all-black wardrobe (which she said she’s been wearing for years) and slightly fuller frame. All the drug history in the past, I think this new Natasha is a positive image for woman to look to.

Slums of Beverly Hills & But I'm a Cheerleader are both stone-cold classics. For that reason, this girl will always be great.
