Rush Limbaugh to Judge Miss America, What a Joke

According to a statement released earlier today, the Miss America Organization (MAO) has picked conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh to judge their 2010 pageant. Taking place January 30 at the Planet Hollywood Restaurant & Casino in Las Vegas, Limbaugh will be one of seven judges presiding over the contest. Furthermore, the conservative pundit will also be serving “as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network, as well as introduce the first Go Green platform for MAO.”

First up, I realize beauty pageants aren’t exactly feminist outings and all, but Rush “I coined feminazi” Limbaugh? The guy who said in 1992 in an interview with Time, “Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society.” Three time divorcee, Rush Limbaugh, is judging Miss America? What. The. Fuck.

Second, he’ll be introducing the first Go Green platform for Miss America? Umm, is Miss America aware that Rush Limbaugh, and his 14 million weekly listeners are a big part of why we can’t get comprehensive climate reform in this country? The guy regularly refers to the scientific community as “environmentalist wackos” for claiming global warming is real.

Third, and I realize politics really shouldn’t be involved here, but the guy not only answered the following question, “If you could send us 400 words on your hope for the Obama presidency” with “I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails,” but he also has referred to the President as “Barack the Magic Negro” on more than one occasion.

And this guy is judging Miss America?

I realize this as much for ratings as anything else — what with Perez Hilton giving Miss USA continual coverage and “controversy” — but sometimes too far is too far. At this point, I can’t really see how any self-respecting woman could be involved in anyway with this pageant. What a joke.

I agree, Miss America is a joke, always has been. Especially for any woman who considers herself to be, in any way, feminist

The only reason I can come up with for this is the pagent must want to be used as a political platform. Rush will probably ask some controversial political question, like “What do you think of Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize?” If the contestant doesn’t give the right wingers the answer they want, she will be ousted immediately, strung up and labeled a socialist. More publicity, more drama for Rush and his right wing army.

I read the whole story and am actually surprised at how little you know about the facts on Limbaugh. I’m also surprised at how you think he is unqualified because he coined the term “feminazi” as if that is somehow a disqualifier. Perez Hilton, who bashes women weekly on his blog was a judge, as you mentioned, and nobody thought twice about it. What. The. Fuck.

2nd, he doesn’t refer to the scientific community as “environmental wackos” he refers to the wackos out there like Al Gore as “environmental wackos”. There is a HUGE difference, especially when many, as in more than half, of the scientists out there disagree with the “environmental wackos”. Also, just exactly what is “comprehensive environmental reform” anyway? Do you even know?

3rd… “Barack the magic Negro” came from an LA Times story titled “Obama the Magic Negro” by David Ehrenstein. The name was changed from Obama to Barack to better fit the melody of “Puff the Magic Dragon”. You don’t like the term? Attack the LA Times on this one.

4th. You should know your subject before you actually write about them. That’s what REAL journalists do.

rush limbaugh is a pig, so is perez hilton and beauty pageants are a joke. self-respecting women (everyone really) should avoid all three.

but really, lol @ “steve” defending Rush Limbaugh. i mean, really? and half of the scientific community disagrees that global warming is real? do you really believe that?
