Coca Cola Light Gets a Makeover For a Good Cause

A recent fashion show featuring giant Coke bottles dressed in custom pieces designed by top Italian names like Versace and Missoni may sound like a silly stunt (and, well, it looks like one, too). But, there was a much more admirable purpose behind the curvaceous bottle models that recently walked the runway in Milan.

Coca-Cola Light will be sold in these well-dressed bottles (granted much more manageably-sized bottles) throughout Milan with the proceeds going to help women affected by the recent earthquake in Abruzzo. What a lovely idea to come from an often self-involved industry that takes itself much to seriously. It’s nice to see a little humor and goodwill for once.

And the bottles! Hilarious and adorable! I mean, seeing the giant Coke bottles on the runway totally made me chuckle! And everyone seems to have a favorite. I’d have to say I’m partial to the saucy Moschino bottle with it’s red and black polka dots and ruffled skirt. Or the other Moschino bottle, a pale pink with a giant bow around the neck. Makes me wish I lived in Milan so I could pick up some of these bottles for myself.

I’m sure fashionable Italians will scoop up the limited-edition bottles in the bat of an eyelash. What a great way for community to help its own people in the wake of a crisis.  And while the rest of us can’t help by purchasing a bottle or two, we can take away a lesson in humanity and a little laugh. OK, the lesson in humanity thing was a little serious. But it’s a lovely gesture and I hope it does a lot of good for the women of Abruzzo.
