Looking fabulous and formulating evil plans with Ed Westwick on Gossip Girl just isn’t enough for Leighton Meester. The 23-year-old is also launching a music career, starting with her new single “Somebody to Love”.
According to E Online, the starlet debuted the song this morning on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM show in Los Angeles. “I really wanted to make something completely different than anything that’s on the radio right now,” Leighton told Ryan. “I feel like it’s really dancey and fun, but still laid-back, relaxed and moody and sexy.”
The track also features Robin Thicke, and is the first single off Leighton’s upcoming album, which she hopes will be out by the end of the year. It was produced by Mike Caren (Chamillionaire, Flo-Ride, Tre Songz). Listen to Leighton’s song!
I love Leighton, but I don’t really think there’s any evidence here that she can actually sing. The verses are quite speak-y, and the chorus features several other voices (is she even singing at all?). It feels very produced – and boring. Here are some lyrics: “It’s hard to find a man\When you’re gone before he wakes.\They say it’s hard to achieve\But can’t a girl believe?”
Sorry Leighton, I think you’d better stick to the headbands and evil plans.

something completely different than what's on the radio? uhh, does she listen to the radio? this is exactly what's been playing, non-stop, on the radio for a few years now
