Jaycee Dugard on the Cover of People Magazine
After being kidnapped and held in a secluded backyard tent for 18 years, Jaycee Dugard is finally back to living a normal life. She appears on the cover of the new People magazine, looking quite happy and healthy considering the circumstances.
“I’m so happy to be back with my family,” she told the magazine. She now lives in seclusion with her mom, Terry Probyn, 50, a middle-school secretary, and her two daughters – Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11 – fathered by her alleged kidnapper, Phillip Garrido. Jaycee, who is 29 but looks quite young for her age, has begun the slow process of recovery. She rides horses, cooks meals and is thinking of collaborating on a book. I know I would be curious to read that – though I wonder if she would delve into her dark past.
“They live a surprisingly normal life, considering the circumstances,” says Terry’s stepmother, Joan Curry.
Garrido and his wife have been charged with 29 counts, including kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment (they have both pleaded not guilty).
The exclusive article also includes photographs of her family, details of her reunion with the sister she hadn’t seen since 1991, and how she’s rediscovering her relationship with her mother.
The new issue will hit newsstands on Friday.
