Let Street Style Inspire You!

Think only celebrities can be fashion trendsetters? Think again. Thanks to a couple long-running blogs and a heightened emphasis on individual style, now everyone has the chance to be a fashion inspiration every time he or she walks out of the house.

If you’ve never browsed the pictures on The Sartorialist, I insist, you must do so now! The blog’s been around since 2005, but it never ceases to be relevant and inspiring. It is what fashion should be. For everyone! Not just for thin models or the ultra-rich! Everyone! In August, The Sartorialist caused quite a stir when the site featured a picture of a homeless man in NYC. What the photographer noticed in this man’s outfit were his blue boots and matching socks, indicating a sense of care in how he put himself together, despite his unfortunate circumstances.

Now, there is a Sartorialist picture book out and street style is as alive as ever with websites like streetpeeper.com and a new feature on style.com that showcase the pictures of photoblogger Tommy Ton. There is no fuss and no muss to these websites. They are simply pictures of fashionable everyday people (and the occasional celebrity). Who knows, one day you might see a picture of yourself on the Web.

I beg of you, please check out theses sites. I know sometimes scrolling the runway pics can be a little discouraging. The clothes, of course, are gorgeous, but they are shown in such a contrived environment that most of us will never experience, that it’s hard to imagine wearing any of those things in our daily lives. Street style websites show you just want can be done with a little inspiration and a lot of confidence. No matter if you’re black, white, young, old, skinny or fat. We can all be fashionable! We ARE all fashionable!
