Top Five Facial Masks

By Melissa Barlow on October 16th, 2009

I’ve been obsessed with facial masks for the last few months. I can’t tell you how many masks I’ve done in the past few weeks which is what inspired me to do a list of my five favorite masks. The masks are in no particular order, they all achieve different results, and cover a wide range of skin issues

Neutrogena Acne Mark Fading Peel

This mask focuses on discoloration that acne can leave behind. It’s a lightweight 2% Salicylic Acid gel mask with gentle exfoliating beads that is left on the skin for 5 to 10 minutes and can be used up to three times a week. I started using this mask about a year ago and have seen some good results, some of my older scars while not completely gone have noticeably faded.

B. Kamins Diatomamus Earth Masque

This mask is for all you oily skinned gals. It’s an old fashioned white clay mask that when applied lightly takes about 25 to 30 minutes to dry. This mask can help with excessive oil production and help draw impurities out of the skin leaving it soft and best of all matte.

MD Skincare Intense Hydra Mask

This mask is for dull, lifeless, severely dehydrated skin. It’s a two step system Step 1 is a Hyaluronic Gel that plumps the skin and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles.  Step 2 is a self-heating Vitamin C mask that is applied over the gel and left on for at least a half an hour but can be left on as long as you want. It’s really neat how it heats up when they combine and the plumping effect can last for a few days.

Mario Badescu Flower and Tonic Mask

This mask is for congested skin and clogged pores. It’s an extremely gentle clear gel applied for 15 to 20 minutes 2 to 3 times a week that helps absorb dirt and oil and calm irritation the skin. It smells absolutely wonderful and leaves the skin nice and soft.

ReVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream

The name is a little deceiving, it is a cream, but it works best as an overnight mask. It’s a thick cream that is applied in a thin layer on the face in the p.m and left on overnight to dry. It leaves you a little scary on the morning because it gets  flaky as it dries but it’s totally worth it. This mask treats all of the issues the other masks but in one all encompassing super mask.
