Top 5 Sexy But Not Slutty Halloween Costumes

If you’re like me, you want to look hot this Halloween – but you don’t want to be traipsing around in your underwear. Most commercial costumes for women are variations on the same thing - a tight bodice, boobs popping out, and a ridiculously short skirt. If I were a size 2, maybe I’d want to try it. But for us curvier girls, going around half-naked is just not flattering.

Here are some ideas for what might look better:

1. Queens

You could go medieval or modern, real or fictional. Try being a generic old-timey ruler or someone like The Queen of Hearts, Cleopatra, Queen Frostine from Candyland or the evil Queen from Snow White. This is a great option if you want to show cleavage but don’t want to bare your legs, since most Queens wear floor-length gowns.

2. Any of the Women from Mad Men

You can go for a specific hottie (I’m tempted to buy a red wig and stuff my bra to look like Christina Hendricks), or just emulate the 60s professional style in general. This look is made for curvier girls, since it’s all about the chest, fun hair and hourglass figure. Go for a cinched waist, a knee-length skirt or dress, and high heels. Cleavage is optional. 

3. Public Figures/Celebs

These can be great ones to make people laugh. Last year Sarah Palin was a big one; this year stores are selling out of spiky Kate Gosselin blond wigs. You might try Hilary Clinton or Octomom, or on the sexier end of the spectrum, Lady Gaga or Beyonce. If you’re going out with a guy, dress up in a silver dress as Taylor Swift and have him be interrupting Kanye!

4. Girls From Other Decades

Whether it’s a 20s flapper dress, 50s poodle skirt or 60s mod sheath dress, vintage outfits are always fun, and can be chosen based on what looks best on your body. Even 90s’ looks are old enough now that you could channel a little Alicia Silverstone from Clueless and look fabulous!

5. Be Abstract!

If you’re creative, you can find a way to embody an idea rather than a specific person or character. Two years ago, some friends of mine dressed up as the seven deadly sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. In your interpretation, you can cover up as much or as little as you want. If you’ve got a group of four, you could be the seasons, with Autumn covered in leaves and Winter in a silvery white dress and shimmery makeup.
