disney-princess-rings-1From Snow White to Jasmine, we all have our favorite Disney Princesses. Little girls love dressing up as them, and even 20- or 30-somethings might continue the trend for Halloween. But a Disney Princess engagement ring? Is that taking the fantasy too far?

According to MTV News, designer Kirstie Kelly recently unveiled her “Kirstie Kelly for Disney by Mouwad” collection of rings at Bridal Week In New York. The jewelry line features six engagement rings and matching wedding bands all inspired by Disney’s famous leading ladies: Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel and Belle. “Subtle references to the personalities of each princess can be seen throughout the collection such as pave and millgrain borders, suggestive of Cinderella’s ethereal grace and charm, or baguettes and clean lines for Ariel, symbolic of an art deco influence and her bold individuality,” says a Disney release.

The collection will be available starting in spring 2010, and the rings retail from $3,280-$5,160. (Check them all out here.) Kelly has also designed a line of fairytale bridal gowns to accompany the jewels, staring with a gown inspired by Princess Tiana, Disney’s first African-American princess, who will appear in the upcoming The Princess and the Frog.

At first I was ready to gag, imaginging ridiculous costumey pink and purple rocks…but these rings are actually quite beautiful. What do you guys think? Would you wear one?

Disney entering the bridal jewelry market is an interesting way to extend their brand. Is this move because the wedding industry is generally thought of as being recession-proof? Guess time will tell. But let’s not get all Goofy about this!!!

vDisney just may have made what on paper seems like a very smart move. After all, millions of people get married year after year. But will fans of “The Little Mermaid” be willing to spend money on their bridal jewelry in such a tough economic time? With the popularity of the less expensive metals for wedding bands growing, I am not so sure if that generation will be spending much on wedding jewelry in general. Well, maybe the women will, so perhaps Disney has made a good move. Their new jewelry does look very nice. www.wrightandlato.com

When I read the headline, I expected to see the Disney Princess image engraved in the bands or embedded in the faux stones but these rings are very beautiful.

I think Disney has gone a little far with making engagement rings based on characters. Of course the payoff on these is probably about 15 years out when the little girls grow up and have dreamed about these rings for years. That is what makes a marriage last"
