Why This Season of Project Runway is OUT!

As I write this I am watching a new episode of Project Runway: Season 6. The challenge is to design a Bob Mackie-esque stage costume for Christina Aguilera. You’d expect the designers to go wild: bright colors, fringe, sequins, feathers, dangerously short skirts, maybe even a beaded headpiece. Nope. Instead, they all sent unimaginative black and/or silver sequin gowns down the runway. I am now more resolute than ever in my belief that Project Runway has lost more than a little bit of its luster. In fact, it’s downright boring.
I, more than anyone, was so excited for this new season. The last five were great! I never missed an episode. But, the air is out of the balloon. Maybe it’s the new network. Or, the new city. Or, the designers. Or, the challenges. But something is definitely missing. What happened to the Santino Rices, Jay McCarrolls and Christian Sirianos of the world? Those designers brought the drama and the design. This season’s designers bring nothing but little squabbles and mediocre fashion. None of them stand out for any reason, good or bad. I find myself looking for anything else to watch on Thursday nights other than Project Runway. It’s so sad.
Even the guest judges suck. I do not consider Lindsay Lohan, Christina Aguilera or Eva Longoria to be symbols of high fashion. Quite the contrary, actually. I miss the days when true fashion icons like Sarah Jessica Parker were guests on the show. Even Heidi bores me, from her commentary right down to her outfits. It’s all dull. Perhaps the show has simply run its course. Who knows? What I do know is that I don’t care who wins or loses.

I totally agree with your Project Runway article…the show has lost it’s zeal with, IMO, the move to LA and the “celebrity” feel the show has taken on. Maybe Lifetime should consider moving the show back to NYC…the real fashion Mecca…before it’s too late.
Obviously you don’t know Christina’s style. She wears very little color in her performances…black, white, silver, and red. In fact for the ‘Stripped’ tour she performed “Beautiful” for the finale in a t-shirt stating “God Sees No Color” and jeans.
