Halloween is a rough holiday for anyone trying to eat healthy. Donuts, cupcakes, and insane amounts of candy … is it possible to enjoy some of the sugar without going overboard? Of course, moderation is key, but beyond that, here are some ideas for treats that are tasty (I won’t cheat and tell you to “indulge” in fruit or pick gross sugar-free stuff), but will still allow you to fit into that sexy costume.

1. Fling

I was actually really into these candy bars for a while. The slogan is “naughty, but not that naughty,” and although the strangely sexual marketing campaign for women was a bit weird, the chocolate is actually delicious. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate and hazelnut flavors are available, and each package contains two bars. Each bar is around 85 calories!

2. Three Musketeers

Their slogan: “a lighter way to enjoy chocolate.” This classic bar is lower in fat and calories than others because of its light, fluffy center. The fun size version of the original has 190 calories and 6 grams of fat, while seven dark chocolate mint minis have 180 calories and 6 grams of fat. And remember that dark chocolate contains healthy antioxidants!

3. Hershey’s 100 Calorie Bars

They’re probably too expensive to hand out to trick-or-treaters, but Hershey’s 100-calorie bars might be a better choice to keep around the house or the office. There are 100-calorie versions of York Peppermint Wafers, Reese’s Peanut Butter Wafers, Pretzel Bars, Special Dark Chocolate Bars, Crisp Wafer Bars and Whipped Vanilla Bars. Most have around 6 grams of fat per bar.

4. Nutrageous

Although candy bars with nuts can be high in fat and saturated fat, they can also provide protein and fiber that will fill you up and prevent you from eating an entire bag (unlike many non-chocolate treats like Sour Patch Kids or Twizzlers, which are fat-free or low-fat, but are also devoid of anything outside of sugar). A snack-sized Nutrageous bar is only 90 calories and it contains 2 grams of protein!

5. York Peppermint Patties

This refreshing candy combines dark chocolate with mint, similar to the new 3 Muskateers. The pattie provides a hint of chocolate, but a much lower saturated fat content than full-on chocolate bars. One pattie comes in at 140 calories, 2.5 grams of fat and 1.5 grams of saturated fat.
