Surprises. Everyone loves them — even if they say they hate surprises — and it’s even more fun to plan one. But, when funds are low it can be difficult or nearly impossible to plan that romantic get-a-way or even a gourmet dinner at your favorite restaurant. The economy is bad. I get it. But don’t let it be an excuse to not plan an enticing and romantic night or day with your partner. Here are some suggestions for planning a romantic, recession-proof date, or night-in, with your partner.

1. Recycle and re-use. I know one of my favorite ways to surprise my partner is by wearing some new, sexy lingerie when he walks in the door from work. If you don’t have the funds to buy a new outfit for your boudoir, mix and match some of your existing pieces. Or, surprise him by putting on one of his ties paired with your favorite thigh-highs — and nothing else.

2. Take advantage of natural resources. If you live close to the beach, a snowy mountain, or a beautiful park, kidnap your partner and take him for a romantic walk (and makeout session) in a new place. Bring a blanket, your portable iPod and speakers, wine, and some cheese and crackers. Spend time enjoying the natural beauty around you, and each other’s arms.

3. Put your hands to work. First, use your hands to make a homemade dinner or quick snack. After you have enjoyed some quality time together over dinner, treat your partner to a full-body massage. Hopefully, they’ll return the favor and you can spend an evening in, enjoying feeling good and making your partner feel good too.

Remember now, a lack of funds does not have to mean a lack of romance. Use these suggestions, or hopefully some that readers will post, to plan a romantic and inexpensive time with your mate. Remember, it’s the quality of the time you have together, not the costliness of it, that will keep your relationship happy and healthy.
