What Happened to Meg Ryan?

I’m calling the late ’90s … because I want Meg Ryan back. Seriously, where has our favorite romantic comedy heroine gone? Since 2001’s time travel romp, Kate & Leopold, (which I actually did like – but I was also a teenager at the time), Meg has only been in six movies. One was the quirky and disappointing In the Land of Women, and the other was The Women (a flop — but you couldn’t help but envy Meg’s super hot blond curls).

So what happened to Meggo? Sure, she’s 47, and we all know Hollywood isn’t generous with meaty roles for over-40 ladies … but Sandra Bullock had her biggest opening ever (The Hangover) at age 45. Meg did star in the comedy Serious Moonlight this December, alongside Kristen Bell and Justin Long. Written by the late Adrienne Shelly, who also wrote the amazing Waitress, the  movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is the directorial debut of actress Cheryl Hines. In it, Meg plays a woman who duct-tapes her cheating husband to a toilet.

But will we get to see any more of Meg? In June it was announced that she’ll guest star on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm this season, but there’s not much else on the radar. Is she not being offered good roles anymore? Is she sick of Hollywood? Is she too busy with her daughter, whom she adopted from China in 2006?
