Jay Z and Alicia Keys’ World Series Performance (VIDEO)
The Yankees and Phillies are tied at 1-1 in the World Series, but the Yankees are the clear winners when it comes to hometown music stars. According to People magazine, the big attraction at last night’s game at Yankee Stadium was Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of their hit “Empire State of Mind.” Take a look at the video:
Sporting a Yankees cap and varsity jacket, Jay-Z jumped around the outfield stage and rapped his New York anthem, while Keys sang the chorus, first while seated at her piano and then from center stage. They players all seemed to be enjoying the show, and didn’t even really mind when Jay-Z sang his lyric “I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can.” Some people call the line controversial…I think it’s just kind of arrogant.
Yankees shortstop/heartthrob Derek Jeter was digging the song. “I think it almost seems like it’s the anthem for New York right now,” he said. ”I got an opportunity to get to know Jay-Z throughout the years and he’s very, very talented doing a lot of things. But he knows what he’s doing, so I think New York has kind of embraced that song.”
We’ll see if the Yankees know what they’re doing for the rest of the series!
