Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin to Tag Team the Oscars
Normally I don’t really get that into the Oscars (remember when “Lord of the Rings” would get like 50 awards?), but now that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are officially co-hosting, I am seriously excited.
According to E! Online, the ceremony will take place March 7, 2010 at Hollywood’s Kodak Theater. ”I am happy to cohost the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin,” Steve said in a statement. Steve is no stranger to the podium; he hosted the Awards solo in both 2001 and 2003.
“I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars—it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” added Alec, who is a newbie to the event but has started collecting Emmys for his hilarity on 30 Rock. It’s also fairly historic — the Oscars have only had solo hosts since 1987, when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan rocked the mic.
Despite being clear enemies, the funny duo can be seen in the new rom-com “It’s Complicated”, due out Dec. 25, starring Meryl Streep as the woman trying to choose between the two. I say go for Alec. No, Steve. Ahh! It’s too hard! They’re both so funny! Maybe the film will turn Hollywood convention on its head and let her keep both men? Please?
Although the Martin-Baldwin tag team seems genius, it actually wasn’t the ceremony’s first choice. Hugh Jackman, who hosted the event last year, reportedly turned down the offer, which is just as well. As much as I love our favorite tap dancing Wolverine, I think we need a break. But will Alec and Steve do their part and do a singing and dancing number? I feel it’s quite likely.
