“Precious”, one of the most talked about films this fall, is out in select theaters today. Executive produced by Tyler Perry and Oprah, “Precious” is based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire and tells the story of an overweight, illiterate teen who has been abused and is pregnant with her second child, but has been invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that her life can head in a new direction. Check out the trailer:
The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last January and has been gaining buzz ever since. If you’re dying to see this intense drama, it’s playing in several theaters in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Atlanta. Check out the locations at Fandango.
Have any of you guys read the book? Are you planning to see the movie? I admit I want to see it. It stars Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and, of course, newcomer Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe as the title character. The New York Times calls it, “A hybrid, a mash-up that might have been ungainly, but that manages to be graceful instead.” And you know they rarely like anything.
Director Lee Daniels recently told The Onion he had to do this film because, “it was just raw and honest, and the characters were so rich and fresh and new. Shit like we don’t normally see. Shit like I don’t see. We’ve got to see this, we have to know this.”

Come on people, just say what it is, another obese black girl who can't keep her mouth or legs shut! I've been seeing this movie all my life, just different actors. There's probably one living next door to you now. There's never been a shortage! Remember, they were bussed out of New Orleans, 9th Ward, by the bus loads. Where was Oprah then? Oh, that right, she was in Africa setting up that girls school, serving them up to be raped. Way to go, Oprah.
