When Jennifer Hudson spoke of a “Netflix for purses” in the Sex and the City movie, I was intrigued. We all want to be decked out in designer, but who can actually afford it? According to ABC News, new website Rent the Runway solves that problem, leasing designer dresses for a fraction of the price.
It really is like Netflix; customers receive their chosen dress by mail and return it in a pre-paid envelope already included in the deal. A four-night loan runs $50 to $200 and it includes dry cleaning. For an extra $25, renters can even choose a second style as a back-up.
From their website: RTR makes high fashion affordable. We buy pieces directly from top designers and then offer rentals at just 10% of retail prices. It couldn’t be simpler: just browse our pages until you find something you love. Put it in your basket, tell us when you’d like it delivered, and it’ll appear on your doorstep—in two different sizes, just to be safe.
The site also offers stylist advice for accessorizing, sizing, and so on. And they’ll soon be renting accessories too! Yowza. I think my world has been rocked–just in time for holiday party season! Unfortunately, the only option is to add yourself to the wait list right now…so here’s hoping.
