christmas-shopper-1Ahh! With Christmas only six weeks away, it’s time to get shopping! According to ABC News, people are so tight with their money that last year’s holiday shopping season was the worst in 42 years…so retailers are doing everything they can to get you to hand over your beloved cash.

Wal Mart announced that its online stores will offer many hot books for just $9 and free shipping, including John Grisham’s latest, and Sarah Palin’s new biography. In response, Amazon.com and Target have joined the cheap book party.

If you’re buying for youngsters, there will be plenty of cheap toys, too. Wal Mart is advertising 100 different toys on sale for $10 or less (a big increase from the 10 cheap toys they offered last year). Products include classic board games like Monopoly and Battleship, Lego sets, Play Doh, Littlest Pet Shop items and more. Wal Mart also has a huge section of DVDs under $10 and electronics discounts like GPS systems for $98, digital cameras for $59 and TVs for $248.

Toys R Us is offering over 6,000 toys for $10 or less, with free shipping on orders of $45 or more.

If you like a little style with your savings, Target is offering deep discounts with hundreds of gifts of all types below $15, plus clothing from their designers’ collections for under $25. The store also has what it calls a low-price promise: stores nationwide will match locally advertised prices from competitors.

If only I could buy things for myself…
