Got big plans this weekend? Maybe going dancing with friends? Or better yet, how about a hot date? Well, if you’re on the hunt for something new and fun, find your local Swine Flu party and get ready to get down with the sickness.
According to CNN and The New York Times, people are hosting Swine Flu parties in which they invite people who have the virus to their house for a party in the hope of catching the virus now so they can be immune to a worse outbreak later. One flu specialist told the New York Times that the idea was “totally nuts.”
Ironically, not everyone is against the idea. The verdict is out as to whether this is an effective way to stop yourself from getting a worse strain of the virus later. However, most medical professionals agree that by trying to self-infect, you are venturing in to unknown territory by deliberately attempting to get the virus.
All seem to agree that attempting to expose your child to H1N1 in an attempt to stop your child from getting a worse strain of the virus is just bad parenting.
Well, all I can say is, thank God. Thank God for CNN and the people who have spent years in the medical profession.
Unfortunately, they are wasting time and energy fighting stupidity rather than a virus. When I first heard of Swine Flu parties, I thought it was a hoax, then I thought it was so absurd it was comical.
I started to write an article I was going to title, “Tips For Hosting Your Own Swine Flu Soiree” then I worried that I could be sued for sarcastically suggesting it would be fun and easy to host such an event (bacon-wrapped hot dogs, anyone?).
The issue that such a newsworthy party has brought to light is that perhaps we should be more fearful of mankind’s stupidity and less worried about the virus.

We're not supposed to come to work, no matter what, if we contract the H1N1 virus... So when's the party?

Wow, when I read this I just could not stop laughing! Having worked in EMS and Law Enforcement I have a slightly twisted view of humanity in general, and this type of behavior is evidence as to one of my favorite sayings, "People are stupid"! Whatever happened to common sense? Thanks for the laughter, but the other side of the humor is the seriousness that there are people out in our society that actually think and reason this way. Amazing!
