With the unemployment rate nearing ten percent and the holidays quickly approaching, we could all use some money-saving holiday gift ideas. But when it comes to buying gifts for your significant other, a trip to your favorite store’s sales rack can seem a bit, well, cheap and meaningless.

Fortunately, there are other options. Here are some gift ideas that will make your sweetie’s heart melt without breaking the bank:

1. Wrap Yourself!

Wrap yourself in strategically-placed gift wrap and let your partner unwrap you. He will definitely enjoy the fact that you’re doing something out of the ordinary for him over the stressful holiday season. Or you can figuratively “wrap yourself” by making your time and thought a gift. (I know, the guys are screaming “Nooooo!!!”) Surprise your partner by bringing them a hot lunch or dinner when he’s putting in a late night at work.

2. Clip Coupons.

Not the kind you find in the newspaper — the kind you make yourself. Create your own coupon book with some of your partner’s favorite things you do. If your partner loves your homemade fried chicken, make a coupon for it. Or, if your partner really loves it when you put your lips … well, you get the idea. The deal is, though, when your partner cashes in, there are no rain checks!

3. Plan the night.

Let’s face it, now that you’re with your partner you spend less time with friends than during the single days. Call your partner’s friends and let them know you’d like to plan a night out FOR your partner. Work with them to make dinner reservations or figure out where they can all rendezvous — bonus points if it’s your partner’s favorite place. Let your partner know, in plenty of time, that you are all having a fun night out, and all he or she has to do is show up.

You don’t have to spend Christmas cash to let your partner know you love them and are thinking of them. After all, your time, attention, and positive spirit are gifts they will remember long after the bottle of cologne runs out.
