Beloved figure skater Scott Hamilton will return to the ice for the first time in five years as part of an inspirational Thanksgiving special. According to The Huffington Post, the 51 year-old Olympic gold medalist and testicular cancer survivor had stayed off his skates due to a brain tumor scare, but he’ll skate again for the special “Kaleidoscope,” which will air Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) on Fox.

“I decided this year to take charge of my health, and get back on the ice after five years,” Scott told Fox New York. ”It’s taken 12 months to get to this point but I’m a work in progress. Onward and upward. If you don’t ask your body to do something, you’ll never get an answer.” Check out the entire interview:

Scott will skate alongside fellow cancer survivor Dorothy Hammill, as well as Kristi Yamaguchi and Nancy Kerrigan. The special is intended to inspire viewers to triumph over illness. “It’s about using entertainment to get the word out about cancer and awareness,” Scott said. “This one is mostly about women’s cancers.”

Olivia Newton John will also perform. “The cast is incredible, the show is beautiful,” he said. “What a thrill to be back in front of an audience.” You go, Scott! Keep skating!
