American Idol runner up Adam Lambert has been making headlines ever since the show ended, including being warned by his record label not to act too gay. It’s clear Adam wants to keep people talking, since his performance of new single “For Your Entertainment” on the American Music Awards last night included grabbing a guy’s face and smashing it against his crotch – one of many oversexed moments. The simulated fellatio (so classy, Entertainment Weekly), S&M dancers and female crotch grab (well, that shouldn’t be too gay for you, 19 Entertainment!) may seem a bit shocking at first, but I actually find the whole performance pretty hilarious because it’s so over the top. And call me crazy, but it sounded like he was actually singing! Or maybe that’s just the poor sound quality of the AMAs, which have been the redheaded stepchild of music award shows for years. The Grammys are official, the VMAs are (ideally) cool and edgy, and…why exactly do we have the AMAs again? I forget.
I know Adam has an army of die-hard fans, but I’m not sure there’s much substance beneath all the guyliner, media hype and un-poplike vibrato. What’s the next stunt for our entertainment?
