Lady Gaga Tells Ellen: “I Felt Like a Freak” in High School
If you’re a freak, that’s okay with Lady Gaga. According to People Magazine, the 23 year-old singer known for her bizarre costumes and performances will appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show this Friday, shedding some light on the personal history behind her antics.
“I didn’t fit in in high school and I felt like a freak,” she told Ellen. (Not exactly a shock.) ”So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with and they don’t feel alone. The whole point of what I do – The Monster Ball, the music, the performance aspect of it – I want to create a space for my fans where they can feel free and they can celebrate,” she says.
Lady Gaga stressed the importance of using her music to let fans know that it’s okay to be different, since she has her own inner “Boy George.” (I’m kind of jealous.) “This is really who I am, and it took a long time to be okay with that,” she said. “Sometimes in life you don’t always feel like a winner, but that doesn’t mean you’re not a winner, you want to be like yourself. I want my fans to know it’s okay.”
Ellen seems to be all about Gaga’s weirdness, since she joined her onstage, her jeans contrasting with the masked dancers all in white. I can’t wait to see it!
