If you need a gift for an Alicia Keys fan, or even just someone who likes unique jewelry, check out Alicia’s new collection of handcrafted necklaces. According to People Magazine, the R&B songstress co-created the pieces with The Barber’s Daughters designer Gisele Theriault, and is so proud of the results she has trouble picking a favorite.
“They’re all so beautiful,” she said. “I definitely love the one we chose [to benefit Keep A Child Alive, for] the Black Ball. It says, ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,’ which is a Gandhi quote — which I love.” That necklace runs for $295, and Keep a Child Alive will receive $100 from each purchase. Items from the Fall 2010 line range in price between $85 to $2,500, and each is inscribed with inspirational sayings which Alicia and Gisele collaborated on choosing. “We both love words,” Alicia explained. “She’s a great writer and I love to write.”
Alicia had never even considered designing jewelry until she met Gisele through her bandmates — and she likes doing more than just picking out pretty things. “In regards to her jewelry, how it can spread such an uplifting message — I love the fact that that’s the focus of the pieces. Of course they’re beautiful aesthetically, but the purpose is more how the words influence us.”
After this, she might consider working on an apparel line or maybe even fragrances in the future, “Sure, the world is endless and possible — as long as it resonates with that message,” Alicia said.
