How much is a better-looking butt worth? Former Miss Argentina Solange Magnano ended up paying with her life. According to The Huffington Post, the 38 year-old mother of twins died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition following a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.
Dr. Gonzalo Cortes y Tristan said that Solange arrived at his hospital with an acute respiratory deficiency. Her condition deteriorated until she suffered the embolism. If she had a respiratory problem, why did they proceed with the surgery??
A close friend of Solange’s, Roberto Piazza, said the procedure involved injections and the liquid “went to her lungs and brain.” He also said what we’re all thinking: “A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind.”Normally I’m not against plastic surgery, except for when older women have multiple procedures because they’re trying to fight the inevitable aging process. I think that it’s really easy for naturally thin, perfectly proportioned people to get up on a soapbox and talk about how plastic surgery is morally wrong. Don’t use it to fix your marriage or your life, but if you’d be much happier with a tummy tuck, I say go for it. However, plastic surgery has become so mainstream that I think sometimes we forget that there are risks involved with any surgery. Before going under the knife, remember that something like what happened to Solange could happen to anyone.

Yuck, a terrible story! Do you think Joan on Mad Men destroyed herself to look that way? (Yes I know she's a fictional character, but you get my point...) Some people are truly addicted to plastic surgery, yet I feel this modern world has really downplayed the health risks. Look at Kanye's mom - I bet she didn't think for a second that she could die from plastic surgery.

It's all too bad that she had to die. I'm just wondering, though.... Didn't the doctor advise her against going through with the surgery? And if he did, why did she still go through with it? Oh yeah, you already asked that. Maaaan... The things people do for vanity. -Denise
