8 Tips for Beautiful Winter Skin

797762_17472659If you want to really glow this holiday season the first step is to take care of your skin. Here are eight tips for putting your best face forward:

  1. Moisturize. Because of the low humidity skin can get extra dry, extra fast — bump up your moisturizing routine to either include heavier duty face creams or try to reapply several times daily instead of just in the AM or PM.
  2. Hydrate. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. All fluids are helpful, but plain, regular water is best.
  3. Lay off the harsh treatments. Skin can be more sensitive in the winter months, so it’s not the time to overdo it with too many harsh scrubs, facial peels, etc.
  4. Lip Service. The skin on your lips needs extra love in the harsh winter months to stay soft and kissable. Apply a nourishing lip balm often and avoid licking (it only makes dryness worse).
  5. Humidify. Using a humidifier in your home (the bedroom especially) and office can help your skin, nose, and throat feel and look less dry.
  6. Wear gloves. Always wearing gloves outdoors can help prevent hands from getting so dry they crack. Also be sure to apply hand cream regularly.
  7. Shorten your showers. Spending too much time in the water dehydrates skin (hence the “pruniness”) so keep your showers and baths to no more than 10 minutes each.
  8. Exfoliate. Gently exfoliate skin once a week to slough off the dull outer layers, and be sure to moisturize afterward.
