When I picture the wedding of my dreams, the fantasy never  includes Fran Drescher and Jason Alexander. In fact, it doesn’t include any has-been sitcom stars. But, then again, I’m not a 66-year-old disgraced doctor or his new 26-year-old bride. For the wedding of their dreams, which was held over the weekend in Australia, apparently Drescher plus Alexander plus Dr. Phil equals marital bliss.

You can just go ahead and file this story under WTF? in the filing cabinet right now. Because it only gets weirder. First off, the groom, Geoffrey Edelsten, is a former doctor plagued by scandal (and banned from practicing medicine) who went bankrupt in the ’90s after hiring a hit man to assault a patient. Now he’s spending $3 million on a wedding in Australia? I smell a rat. Another potential scandal, perhaps. I’d hoped the Anna Nicole Smith-Sugar Daddy marriage had become passé, but clearly it’s still very much in vogue. The little wifey, Brynne Gordon, is 40 years younger than her new husband.

Furthermore, the couple had never met the sitcom stars prior to inviting them to their wedding. Weirder still is why Drescher and Alexander would agree to such a pathetic stunt. Alexander has a couple movies in the works and no doubt the residuals from “Seinfeld” are keeping him more than comfortable. As for Drescher, well, her career never really skyrocketed, but still, I would never have expected her to stoop to doing a wedding-for-hire appearance.

And the choice of Drescher and Alexander (which kind of sounds like a law firm) seems completely arbitrary. Did the couple sit down one night and pick names of C-list celebs out of a hat to see which ones they could get to show up at their wedding? Or perhaps she is just a really big fan of “The Nanny” and he of “Seinfeld.” And how much did the actors get paid? There are just so many mind-boggling questions.

One thing that isn’t confusing is Dr. Phil’s involvement in all this. That man will attach himself to anything if he thinks it will keep him relevant. I guess for Dr. Phil, this time, a video wedding invite was that opportunity.
