I’m sure you’ve all had granola in a bag, and of course granola in a bar, but I’m willing to bet many of you have never experienced the wonder that is a granola plank.
I hadn’t, until last week when I opened my box of Honest Foods granola planks that were sent to me to try. I tore the Blueberry Vanilla Crackle open and took a bite. The plank was extra thick, and the bite didn’t come off easily. While the taste was delicious, I was a bit thrown by the sticky yet hard texture, until I read the box. Even with food, always read instructions, folks.
You see, a granola plank is not equal to a granola bar: a granola plank is so much more.
The Honest Foods granola planks are versatile and will remedy any of your granola gripes.
The Bagged Stuff- It turns to dust. Where are my crunchy clusters?
The Chewy Bar- Must be eaten in original form and straight out of the wrapper to avoid sticky fingers.
The Crunchy Bar- If you choose to forgo biting right into it to avoid financing your dentist’s next cruise, trying to break it up to sprinkle on something leaves you with huge shards and an even bigger mess.
With a plank, you have choices. With the rest of my half eaten plank, I crumbled it into perfectly huge, clean chunks to put into a yogurt. With my next plank, I heeded the boxes’ advice and popped it into the toaster. Yeah, I put the whole thing right into the toaster like a pop tart. Try and do that with a regular granola bar. (Actually, don’t, you’ll start a fire.) The last? I slathered with a little almond butter and dipped it into my morning oatmeal.
Now, these babies are not low calorie. 1 plank is 190 calories per serving, and there are 2 servings per plank, which means if you devour a whole one, which you will probably want to do, you will have just eaten 380 calories. Watch your portions.
Also, unlike most granola bars, Honest Foods granola planks contain no trans fats, and are made with whole nuts (oh, the joy of biting into a whole walnut) organic oats, naturally sweet fruits, and each is hand baked in 3 delicious flavors: Blueberry Vanilla Crackle, Maple Almond Crunch (far and away my fave!) and Pomegranate Walnut Crisp.
Interested? Salivating? We will be holding a giveaway of Honest Foods products early in the New Year, but if you can’t wait, check out their site.
