There’s a new girl in the kitchen with Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Butterworth and Betty Crocker — and she’s quite the looker. The iconic Sun-Maid Raisin girl has received a 21st-century update and is now appearing as a 3-D character in some new commercials. But according to MyFox Charlotte, the hipper, sexier, and decidedly buxom new image has drawn some harsh criticism. Check out the video:
Some reviewers described her as “a little too sexy” … “a Barbie Doll in Amish attire,” and “as if Julia Roberts decided to don a red bonnet and start picking grapes.” One review even suggested that the Sun-Maid girl appears to have received “some implants” to meet the new modern demands of a female spokeswoman.
What do you guys think? I agree that she’s got quite a rack, and that her proportions do look similar to Barbie’s (read: anatomically impossible), but she’s still in that same outfit, which doesn’t show any cleavage or leg. So although it may be form-fitting, I’d hardly call it sexy.
Sun-Maid insists that the new image is still based on Fresno, California’s Lorraine Collett Petersen, a young girl who was painted with a basket of grapes back in 1915. According to the company web site, she was discovered drying her black hair curls in the backyard of her parents’ home. Considering she’d be 90 now, I’d have to say she’s looking pretty fab!
