Product Review: Carol’s Daughter Scar Butter

scar-butter-1
I had a chance to meet Lisa Price, the creator of Carol’s Daughter and she told me the story of how Carol’s Daughter came to be. Always a beauty product freak, Price was disappointed in most beauty products designed for women of color, their problems with dry skin and decided to do something about it. She began making her own brand of organic, natural products in her own home kitchen, selling it at local swap meets and giving it away as gifts for her friends and family.

Eventually, she began selling her products through the mail and online to a great degree of success with dreams of expanding her line somewhere down the line. What Price wasn’t necessarily prepared for was that Jada Pinkett Smith was a fan of Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Shea Souffle….and she mentioned this on Oprah.

Well you can imagine after that Oprah nod, Lisa Price and Carol’s Daughter took off like wildfire. Will and Jada Smith are now investors and Jada is active in promoting the line. The Carol’s Daughter line is an all natural, essential oil based, organic bath and body line all designed with women of color in mind. Don’t let that sway you as Carol’s Daughter is a bath and body line for everyone.

When I met Ms. Price (an absolute doll!) I had recently burned my forearm on a 450 degree oven. I am Hispanic with very fair skin and when I get hurt I scar very easily, especially when it comes to burns. The burn area was not blistered or raised but it was very, very dark and I just accepted that I would always have a scar. As Ms. Price saw me putting Neosporin all over the burn she gave me a jar of her Scar Butter to try.

Scar Butter is a thick cream that is formulated with lavender, camphor and geranium, which according to the wedsite:

are all cytophylactics that aid in generating skin cell growth. Great for minor cuts, scrapes, bruises and burns.

I used it on my burn twice a day for a month and while I still have a faint mark it healed very nicely. I’m really not sure if it would still look the same if I just left it alone or used other scar fading remedies but I’m happy with how it healed. Warning: The scent is very potent and mediciney so it can be somewhat overpowering if you are sensitive to strong scents.

Scars aside, what I really like Scar Butter for is on my feet! The lavender and camphor feel wonderful on tired worn out feet. I have also used it on rashes, bug bites and cat scratches to help relieve the sting. I know there are all kinds of anti-bacterial and anti-itch creams out there but I like having the fancy remedy in my medicine cabinet too! By the way, it’s only a few dollars more than an over the counter cream anyway so why not impress you friends with something that looks fancy but won’t break the bank.
