A healthy diet not only keeps you slim and trim, it can also help with those annoying beauty problems we all have too. After all, no matter what your beauty hang-up, you can always eat to improve or eliminate the problem, all without spending hundreds of dollars on lotions, potions or pills.

Wanted: Stronger, thicker nails

Eat: Protein. To keep nails strong and shiny, eat plenty of protein. Protein helps in the build up of keratin, which is the substance nails are made of. Lean proteins include skinless, boneless chicken breast, lean turkey, tuna and beans, as well as low-fat dairy, like yogurt and milk.

Wanted: Stronger, whiter teeth

Eat: Calcium. Your body continually removes and replaces calcium from your bones and teeth. And if there is no calcium to replace what is used, your teeth will weaken, becoming dull, sensitive and vulnerable (your bones will become weaker too). To solve this problem, eat low-fat dairy and leafy green veggies, like spinach and kale, to get enough calcium. Also, crunchy foods, like apples and carrots, can remove coffee and plaque stains by rubbing them off of your teeth.

Wanted: Soft, clear skin

Eat: Fish, Calcium and Zinc. Eating fish rich in omega-3s, like salmon, will hydrate your skin. Calcium and zinc are great for clearing up skin and eliminating pimples as well as preventing wrinkles. So for your weekly dosages: eat plenty of oysters, eggs and milk.

Wanted: Reduction of dark circles under the eyes

Eat: Vitamin C and Iron. Vitamin C and iron work together to help reduce the dark circles under your eyes. So eat skinless chicken and red, yellow and orange peppers, which are rich in both Vitamin C and iron, and you’re dark circles will soon be gone.

Wanted: Shiny hair

Eat: Vitamin B. Food that is rich in vitamin B will make your hair shampoo-commercial shiny. For a good source of vitamin B, be sure to eat lots of eggs, milk, green vegetables and poultry.

Notice that most of these foods appear multiple times. Also, there is no replacement for healthy foods, even those processed foods that are enriched with vitamins and minerals can’t compare to the nutrition profile of good old whole foods, fruits and veggies. So get your fill, and not only enjoy a happy and healthy weight, but beautiful skin, hair and nails as well.

Thanks for the info! I always have HUGE dark circles under my eyes, so maybe my iron stores are low (I definitely get enough vitamin C, though).
