Laura Zych and Ben Bostic: Love at First Plane Crash
Talk about making lemonade from lemons. Remember that plane that ran into a flock of geese and crash-landed into the Hudson River, with its passengers all miraculously surviving? According to New York Magazine, Laura Zych and Ben Bostic were both on the plane, but had never met. Then when “60 Minutes” arranged for a reunion of the survivors, they bonded over their experience, and when a fellow passenger planned another reunion, the pair talked on her porch until six in the morning. They’ve been dating ever since!
Laura almost didn’t stay and hang out because she had to leave early and drive out of town for another party — she now calls her decision to go back into town that night “one of the best decisions I’d ever made.”
You can read the stories of the passengers of Flight 1549 in the new book “Miracle on the Hudson.” Laura comments, “Even the first time you meet someone from that flight, it’s like you’re instantly bonded,” adding, “You can’t be around this group of people and not feel good.”
They are planning another big reunion next month in New York. The 1549ers calls their gatherings “celebrate life” nights, and Laura and Ben keep that kind of spirit alive in their relationship by dancing to their favorite music every night before they go to bed. “We do that as part of our decompressing and loving life,” she says. “Just so that your day ends on a good note.”
Isn’t that the cutest thing you’ve ever heard?
