carrie-underwood-ring-1Yesterday, country songbird Carrie Underwood announced her engagement to boyfriend Mike Fisher, a Canadian who plays for the Ottawa Senators. According to The Huffington Post, Carrie was in the stands cheering on her new fiance at his game against the Boston Bruins last night – and there was a pretty fancy piece of hardware on her finger.

Check out that rock! I think she just gained a pound. Man, I didn’t know that NHL players made that much. Actually, they don’t – well, compared to pop stars. The NHL’s minimum salary for 2008-09 is $475,000 or $5,792.68 per game, and the maximum is $11,340,000 (or $138,292.68 per game). The average NHL salary this year was $2,286,290.32. According to Wikipedia, Mike started the 2007-08 season by re-signing with the Senators to a five-year, $21 million contract extension – and he went on to set a career-high 23 goals that season. At the beginning of this season, he was named as an alternate captain for the Senators. Not bad, right ladies?

Carrie (26) and Mike (29) had been dating about a year before he proposed. They met through friends after one of her concerts in Toronto in March of 2008.

Despite Carrie’s support, the Senators lost their home game. Something tells me that Mike isn’t feeling too badly about it.
