First-Ever Gay Sex Scene on Daytime TV (VIDEO)
ABC is sending mixed signals again. Weeks after canceling performances by Adam Lambert on Good Morning America and Jimmy Kimmel Live for fear he might repeat his risque, same-sex moves from the American Music Awards, the Disney-owned network has made history with the first gay sex scene on daytime television.
I had always found the Adam Lambert controversy to be a bit of a head-scratcher, since ABC has been progressive in its scripted programming, most notably by featuring three gay recurring characters on family drama Brothers and Sisters.
According to The Huffington Post, the historic scene took place on One Life to Live, with Oliver and Kyle (Scott Evans and Brett Claywell) finally sharing a love scene, followed by a tender spooning moment. Evans, who is the younger brother of Fantastic Four actor Chris Evans, is openly gay offscreen as well.
What do you guys think? They did devote a nice amount of time to the moment. I honestly can’t believe it’s taken us this long to have a same-sex love scene on a soap opera…but then again, this country keeps outlawing gay marriage. I do think it’s interesting, though, that most gay characters on TV are male. Why do we shy away from lesbians?
