Keratosis Pilaris is the fancy name for “chicken skin,” those rough, red bumps on the back of your arms that never seems to go away. It is a chronic skin condition that occurs most commonly on the skin on the back of your arms but can appear anywhere on the body as well. I got all nerdy and looked up the technical parts of KP so the actual cause of the condition is this:
“Keratosis pilaris occurs when the human body produces excess keratin, a natural protein in the skin. The excess keratin, which is cream colored, surrounds and entraps the hair follicles in the pore. This causes the formation of hard plugs… the condition most often appears as a proliferation of tiny hard bumps that are seldom sore or itchy… this condition is year-round, it is during the colder months, when moisture levels in the air are lower, that the problem can become exacerbated.”
Thank you Wikipedia, you are always so informative. To be fair, I must tell you that I don’t have this condition so my review is based on the opinion of a friend of mine who is plagued with KP. I have tried it on my skin, but I don’t think that I got the full effect of it.
First, lets go over the main ingredients that make DermaDoctor’s KP Duty so effective. KP Duty is a concentrated cream that has: Glycolic Acid, Sodium Glycolate, Green Tea, Urea, Soduim Hyaluronic and Dimethicone. I’ll explain some of the more unknown ones. Sodium Glycolate is a combination of Glycolic Acid and salt and this does add a bit of a bite to KP Duty, you can feel it but it doesn’t burn or anything so you don’t have to worry about that. Sodium Hyaluronic is Hyaluronic Acid, a super hydrating AHA. Urea is well, it’s urine but it’s synthetically made not the human kind and is used in more products than you think.
According to my friend, KP Duty is the best cream she has found so far for treating her arms short of a prescription. The scent is a little on the potent side but it dissapates quickly and acoording to her relieves quite a bit of the itching sensation that can accompany KP. The consistency of KP duty is really thick so a little goes a long way and the skin feels smoother to the touch. It also absorbs quickly as long as you don’t use too much.
She used it regularly for a month and there was a visual difference in the back of her arms. It didn’t go away completley but she is happy with what it has done for her. If you have this problem you should give it a try and please, let me know how it worked for you.
