Move over Anna Wintour, the front row at major fashion shows is getting crowded. And it’s bloggers that are filling the seats. The cool kids of the new media fashion world are beginning to encroach on the grand old ladies of fashion journalism as they continue to gain credibility and popularity; some bloggers are even ascending to cult hero status.
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but the photo that accompanies the New York Times article is priceless. Two t-shirt clad bloggers (Tommy Ton and Bryan Boy) flanking the likes of Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles. But, blogs aren’t exactly a new concept. And, they’re certainly not new to the fashion world. So why all the hullabaloo now? Maybe The Times is showing it’s age, or maybe we have officially entered into a new age of fashion journalism, where bloggers carry the same influence and power as the editors of major fashion magazines. Maybe, that fact has finally hit home, with the appearance of Boy, Ton and 13-year-old Tavi, in the front row at shows like Rodarte and Marc Jacobs.
Traditional media is adapting. It’s not like they’ve never heard of a computer before. Style.com (Condé Nast’s website), although it’s been out-viewed by other sites in recent months, is still a favorite of mine. It’s probably the most comprehensive site on the Internet when it comes to coverage of fashion shows and designers. I might be old-fashioned (perhaps the most old-fashioned of the fashion bloggers out there…don’t abandon me for my traditional journalism values!), but I’m partial to reading well-established publications, as opposed to the opinions of a 13-year-old. Not that Tavi isn’t adorable. I read, write and enjoy blogs, but I don’t think they will make old media obsolete. I think they are a nice (and refreshingly opinionated) compliment to, but not a substitute for, traditional media. Which means they should definitely have a place in the front row.
So, it’s time bloggers and editors get familiar with each other. And start sharing those coveted seats.

Being one of the 'oldest bloggers' around, I too like old fashioned style easy to read fashion articles and a good flick throgh the glossies once in a while. I too love the fresh unique style of the young ones and their unstinting love and commitment to all things fashion. Surely there is room for both if they sit lose enough together?
