Louis Vuitton Pins a Tail on the New “It” Bag

First came the Birkin bag. Then, the Balanciaga Motorcyle bag. Then, the Marc Jacobs Stam bag. The newest “It” bag to come out of the fashion world is something a little quirkier than the chic leather bags of seasons past. Fresh off the runway from Louis Vuitton comes the fox tail fur messenger bag.

Victoria Beckham was the first celebrity photographed wearing the bag, so she can go ahead and take all the credit for making this bag popular once it spreads throughout the Hollywood ranks. But, I don’t think that it will become as iconic as a Birkin or Motorcycle. After all, it’s a big slouchy messenger bag dripping with tassels and a fur tail. It doesn’t exactly dangle from the arm like smaller purses. And we’ve all seen how uppity celebs like to carry their luxury bags out in front of them for all to see, ahem, Heidi Montag. But, it’s a pretty fun bag. It comes in bright colors like pink, green and orange (Victoria Beckham’s color of choice). But, you can also mix and match the tails and straps. Say, pinning a pink tail on a green bag. Fashion blogger Bryan Boy has a faded denim version with hot pink strap and green tail.

As for this being the newest, freshest trend, well, I’m calling Louis Vuitton’s bluff. My friend Veronica has been sporting a bag with a tail for months now. Although, come to think of it, I can’t be sure which came first, the LV show or the Davy Crockett tail hanging from her black leather bag. But, she’s a good example of how ladies (and gents) can incorporate this trend into their everyday wardrobe. No need to splurge on the pricey Louis Vuitton bag. Instead, try clipping any sort of fur (or fake fur) tail to a bag you already have. And try other embellishments, like tassels, as well. The more things you can clip on your bag, the better.
