NBC wasted no time getting The Biggest Loser back on the air, debuting its 2010 cast last night. Season 9 is another round of “couples,” but that includes mothers and daughters, brothers, fathers and sons, and cousins, in addition to traditional husband-and-wife couples.
The contestants started their journeys with tearful public weigh-ins, as one man tipped the scales at 526, making him The Biggest Loser’s heaviest contestant ever. It’s so heartbreaking that the show finds heavier and heavier people with each season. The women are all well above 200. Check out a video clip:
For their first challenge, the contestants were asked to ride 26.2 miles (collectively, per team) on stationary bikes. Jaws dropped as host Allison Sweeney announced that the two slowest teams would be immediately eliminated. Of course, there had to be some kind of twist. Trainers Bob and Jillian stopped the losing teams on their ways home and jumped in their limos, telling them that they’d be returning to the ranch in 30 days, and the team with the highest percentage of weight loss would be back in the competition.
Something about this show just doesn’t get old, even eight seasons later. I guess we all love stories of triumph, and before-and-after pictures! Who are you guys rooting for this time?
