Biggest Fashion Disasters of 2009

I know you’re probably expecting to see a list of 50 outfits Lady Gaga has worn over the past year. But, her fashion perspective cannot be contained in a year-end roundup list. I hate the costumes she wears, for the most part, but I do applaud her ability to brand herself as the crazy pop star who never wears pants. Instead, this list contains 5 of the biggest fashion flops from the past 365 days. I’m sure there were a whole lot more, but these five stick out in my mind.

5. Lindsay Lohan at the Whitney Museum Gala – Sure, pretty much anything LiLo wears these days is crap. But, what makes this look particularly tragic, is that she actually made an attempt to pull herself together (I think). Instead, she ended up looking more like a cheap hooker than she does on a daily basis. A pink fur coat, really?

4. Paris Hilton’s Bee dress at a book launch party – Of all the tacky outfits Paris has worn over the years, this one tops the list. Not because it’s slutty, but because it’s just plain ridiculous. I would give her a pass if it was Halloween, but it wasn’t. It was a book launch party. And Paris Hilton showed up looking like a bumble bee.

3. Madonna in bunny ears at the Costume Institute Gala – These were the bunny ears gossiped about around the world. Okay, so they’re Louis Vuitton. But, I don’t think they have any purpose off the runway. Not even at an extravagant event at the Met gala. And…I’ll just say it, not on someone who’s 50-years-old. Sorry, Madonna. It had to be said.

2. Katy Perry’s Muppet dress - Trying to find words to describe this dress is like trying to find Fozzie Bear in the Muppet muck being worn by Katy Perry. It takes a minute and then your head explodes. I could justify this dress if it were worn by Miley Cyrus, but Katy Perry is a grown woman. Wearing Muppets!

1. Cate Blanchett’s potholder dress – It pains me to put Cate Blanchett on the top of this list. But, she deserves it for going out in public in a hideous crochet dress that looks like a blanket knitted by her granny. This woman is all style, all the time. She knocks it out of the park at every awards show. So, to see her show up on the red carpet wearing this nightmare of a dress, is shocking.
