Oh Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay. I have a soft spot for you even though everyone else has given up on your tawdry, desperate antics. Ever since you managed to weasel your way into an Altman film (still kind of implausible, huh?) I’ve wanted to cut you some slack. But girl, you in trouble again!?
Two designers have come forward to say Lindsay is dipping her inspirational pen a little too deeply into someone else’s ink. The first person, James Lillis of Black Milk Clothing, thinks Lilo’s new leggings for her Sevin line resemble HIS design a little too closely — or EXACTLY. Visit this blog post to see for yourself. (Note: one good thing came out of Lindsay’s tricky fingers – I now love James Lillis’ tights-obsessed blog!)
The second person is Jen Kao — Fashionista.com put together a simple diagram here showing you a dress Lindsay wore herself not that long ago, compared with one of Lohan’s recent fashion sketches for her line 6126. Kuo had this to say to WWD:
“While we are all well aware that being ‘mimicked’ or ‘copied’ has always existed in this industry, I think the evolution of it all has grown to an alarming level. It’s a shame to support the concept of taking advantage of designers who are still trying to develop a name and solidify the image of their design aesthetic.”
Basically: Way to rip me off, famous girl, while I struggle here with establishing my own work and my own name.
Two things: Is all fair in love and fashion? A “vision” or a “style” is not something you can patent. And, what should Lindsay do to clear up this kerfuffle? Pull the designs and apologize?
