I don’t know about you, but I definitely indulged over the holidays, whether it was buttery baked goods or anything with the word “stuffing” in it. And now that I’m getting back to eating healthy again, I need some healthy but delicious snacks because I’m not one of those three-meals-a-day type people. I’m a snacker.
Enter one of my favorite snacks in life: raw vegetables and hummus. (Cool Ranch Doritos are a close second, but yeah, I realize that powdered cheese crisps aren’t so good for me.) Did you also know that hummus, made from tahini and chickpeas, is nutritionally packed with essential amino acids, vitamins C, B6, E, K, folate, and thiamin? Not to mention that hummus is packed with protein, high in fiber, and low in fat. Yum.
Tribe Hummus recently sent over their new line of Organic Hummus for review, and I was excited to try this new line. It boasts:
- No Artificial Preservatives
- 0g Saturated Fats
- 0g Trans Fats
- Non-Dairy
- Vegan Friendly
- No Hydrogenated Oils
- No Cholesterol
- Certified Kosher
The flavors? Original, Mediterranean Spices, Roasted Garlic and Roasted Red Peppers.
And what better way to test out these hummus flavors than inviting some friends over, buying tortilla chips (baked! multi-grain! showing effort!), cutting up some fresh carrots, peppers, broccoli, and then noshing away while watching an NBA game? So we did, and here were the results:
WINNER: Roasted Garlic won out by a few votes because of its tanginess and hint of garlic that wasn’t overpowering. Delicious with chips or veggies, and it was the first tub of hummus that disappeared.
The other flavors were pretty good, though no one really had strong feelings for the Mediterranean Spices flavor, as it was a bit too curry-like for their tastes. I personally enjoyed this flavor, but it was a bit pungent.
My favorite is the original which is so simple and delicious, its ingredients only being: organic chickpeas, organic lemon juice, organic canola oil, organic sesame tahini, sea salt, and organic spices. Now I can indulge without feeling guilty.

Tribe hummus? You mean the pasteurized hummus that doesn’t give you the true meaning of hummus, and what hummus should really taste like? Listen, try Fountain of Health hummus. That is a non-pasteurized hummus, and it contains no preservatives. Try their caramelized onion. Better yet try their roasted red pepper hummus. Better yet, try their entire line. I can almost guarantee you this; You try Fountain of Health hummus; you won’t eat anything else ever again. My family and I only eat the best! Fountain of Health hummus is for us!!
