Sixty-three years ago, Diane von Furstenberg was born. And the reasons to celebrate her go far beyond her designs. The woman is an icon in so many ways. What’s more inspiring than her decades-long career in the fashion business is her positive outlook on life and her insecurity-defying self-confidence. Trust me, she wouldn’t care that I told everyone her age. She’s proud of it.
So proud, she refuses to get plastic surgery. How refreshing is that? She is a woman that embraces how life has shaped her looks because it has been a good life. Seriously, come to think of it, I aspire to one day have the sense of self that DVF possesses! Now, can we talk about her clothes? Most girls I know love her designs. They are colorful and bold and feminine and fun, and, in the grand scheme of the fashion scene, they aren’t super expensive either. I can’t afford them, not anymore anyway, but they are accessible to more woman than, say, an Oscar de la Renta dress is.
Oh, and the wrap dress! The one-of-a-kind iconic wrap dress that she created in 1973! The one that makes every woman look and feel like a million bucks! Thank you, Diane! So iconic is the wrap dress, that one is included in the collection at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her clothes truly reflect her vibrant attitude on life, as well as her wild youth.
I will leave you with a quote from the lady herself, “Attitude is everything!” You are so right, Diane. Happy Birthday!
