Sorry, ladies. Derek Jeter is getting married. According to The New York Post, your favorite Yankee and his longtime girlfriend, Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly, have set November 5 as the special date. The smoking gun is a calendar entry labeled “JETER wedding” in the ritzy reception palace Oheka Castle in Huntington, Long Island.
News of the engagement broke in August, but the couple had since remained very hush-hush. So how did the news come out? A Post reporter posed as a bride-to-be who was interested in the castle for her own wedding. (The second-largest private residence in the United States, the Oheka features a French-style chateau hotel and spa, with an exquisite main ballroom and formal gardens with eight reflecting pools and three fountains. Celebrities have been getting married there for decades.)
Sales manager Rick Bellando said that the November weekend in question was booked, and a quick peek at the calendar revealed Jeter’s name in big bold letters. ”I guess if it were Derek Jeter getting married, he really wouldn’t care about my money,” the reporter suggested, pointing to the entry.
Bellando chuckled, but quickly tried to dismiss speculation. “Oh, that’s not Derek Jeter. We wouldn’t use his real name if it were. When the Jonas brother got married here last month, we used a different name.”
Before you frantically search for “Minka Kelly and Derek Jeter pics” to see if she’ s cute enough and set fire to your Derek Jeter bobblehead in effigy, you can at least be glad that the date is at least two days after the World Series ends.
