Last week, Netflix announced a new deal with Warner Brothers that will delay their customers’ ability to rent new releases. Today there’s a more exciting deal: Netflix users will soon be able to instantly stream movies and TV through a Nintendo Wii.
USA Today reports that the service is available to Netflix users with a regular membership and broadband connection. It will be launched this spring.
“Our goal is to offer Netflix members as many ways as possible to watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix right to their TVs and give non-members more and compelling reasons to consider the service,” says Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings in a statement. “Joining forces with Nintendo, which has been so immensely popular with consumers since its introduction, is a very meaningful step in that direction.”
Netflix already has similar arrangements with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3. The company certainly does seem committed to evolving with changing technology to remain both relevant and desirable. What do you guys think? Would you consider becoming a Netflix customer if you aren’t already? The “streaming straight to your TV” option does seem pretty cool, especially if you have a big HD TV. It’s also a whole lot faster than receiving DVDs in the mail and having to wait as they go through the postal system.
